Men’s Bags And Belts

Buying men’s bags based on that season used to only be a woman’s shopping task at one time. Whether the search was at the stores or on-line, most guys won’t bother especially if they don’t mind what the look is old or new. For others, in style and current fashion is very important and keeping up with what is trending is the way to go. As for bags and belts, matching them is an individual preference that includes footwear as well. The shade of the bag and the belt don’t have to match perfectly, since they are not right beside each other. Below is a brown messenger bag and to the right below it, is an option for a belt to use which is a black and brown reversible style.

Mens Brown Leather Messenger Bag

A small accent to your look worn for the occasion balances out the color besides just having the bag. Business or casual wear, accessories like belts are not just a great addition for style, but to help pants fit better at the waist or the hips, which ever way they are worn. They are an essential part of a man’s wardrobe and not only for style.

Making the choice for wearing a belt starts with individual taste, size, color, fabric and comfort improving what you are wearing. Belts are sized in two ways and one is by the number of the waist size. The standard sizes start from 34 to 38 inches which are most popular depending on if they are worn around the waist or hips, and this can go to a 40 inch. The other sizing is S, M, L, XL and up. Below is a tan belt that would go with the tan sling shoulder bag.

Mens Tan Imitation Leather Belt

Mens Tan Sling Shoulder BagLeather remains to be the most popular of materials for belts with all types from low to full grade. Over time other materials were used like faux or imitation leather, canvas, nylon, plastic and metal to name a few. Colors include black, brown, gray, beige, tan and are open to many more as well as blue, green, red and more. Width can be from 3/4 inch to three inches which is best for comfort. This depends on the width of belt loops on the pants so be sure to measure first.

Buckles are the favorite over velcro, snap or tie-up closures. Metal buckles are usually gold tone, silver or brass in different shades. Plastic buckles come in many colors matching what the belt material is and styles can be plain, woven leather or fabric, embossed, studded, printed or made with exotic skins. There are also two in one reversible belt styles having one color in two different shades for each side, or two completely different colors as shown in the picture with the black and brown belt. In the end it all comes down to the mood or occasion at hand for what will be decided upon to wear.

Unless otherwise stated, the bags and belts for this article I chose from various merchants for the specific style I needed to write this article.

I own several belts, most are leather. When I hang my pants in the closet, I put the belt in the hanger to match with the pants. When I get the pants I want to wear, the belt is already there. I have never uses a bag before unless I am taking my laptop. I never thought of matching my bag to my dress for the day. I do have several leather bags for my laptops. Do you think a laptop bag should be matched to your dress.

      Hi John,

It’s nice to hear you own several belts over just having one. Having your belt ready with your pants is a great idea, it’s being organized.

Your laptop bag doesn’t have to match your clothes or even the belt. It’s up to you and your taste with matching them or not.

I absolutely love this article and am actually in need of a decent belt. Mine is many years old and I just haven’t been around to get a new one yet. These seem like viable options. I’m a big fan of black and beige but couldn’t find any you recommend. Do you have a link I could check out? Cheers 🙂

      Hi Brandon,

Most guys usually wait a while before purchasing another belt, and most only own one! It’s always best to own a couple.

My main merchant for belts is eBags. I recently added them and they have many styles and prices to suit any budget. The eBags banner is located to your right, just hover over ‘men’ and you will see them under accessories. They have over 70 styles to choose from, and through the banner there is a 25 percent discount on regular priced items.

Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you back soon!

I find this article super sexy!! Well actually, perhaps the man with a leather satchel or messenger bag is what is so awesome! I grew up with cowboys so even though I am a total urbanite now, leather boots, belts and bags on men feels super manly and hot!! Thank you for making the trend so accessible. I approve big time!!

      Hi Kathleen, you are welcome!

There is something about seeing a guy with a nice bag keeping in style, that’s for sure. They do go well with belts and boots, it’s an overall great look.

    Great post Patsy!
At first I thought it was weird that men were using those messenger bags and were not working as messengers, but after I got one for myself I could really see the value. They are comfy and you don’t feel weighed down like when you carry a briefcase. And as a bonus you can find all of your stuff!
As for belts, I know for myself that leather is the only way to go. I can only hope that it becomes more fashionable for men to match all of their leather accessories, because it looks so awesome!
Leather lasts forever and I think with men’s wear it does not go out of style. Or am I mistaken about that?

      Hi Irma, thank you.

Messenger bags are a style of bag and not specifically for messengers alone. They are one of the most popular unisex bags.

Depending on individual tastes men can either match everything, or have different shades of that color. It has already been fashionable for decades and doesn’t go out of style no matter what is currently trending.
